Helen Oldfield, who runs Ipswich-based Affinity PR, reveals her style secrets

Why have you chosen these clothes for the photoshoot?

They are easy to wear while being presentable, leaving me feeling relaxed and able to concentrate on my work. Im often on my feet all day and dont believe in suffering for fashion!

Are they typical of your day-to-day wear?
Truth be told, Im looking quite a bit smarter here than my family and close pals would recognise! When Im at home, I live in my ancient (sorry, I mean vintage) jeans, let my curly hair run wild and I wear bottle bottom glasses. The naturally elegant gene completely bypassed me, but I always put in the necessary effort to look smart and professional at work.

If money was no object what would you wear?
Id probably have a wardrobe full of Yves St Laurent vintage jackets, or have all my clothes tailor made. Being tall, with huge feet and what my mum would call well made, sometimes makes it tricky to find affordable well cut clothes and shoes. I love local dress agencies and charity clothes swaps and its thoughtful service that creates loyal customers. For example, Ladies That Lunch (Fore St, Ipswich) noted my shoe size and style likes/dislikes, and call me when new stock arrives.

Whats the most outlandish item in your wardrobe?
Sunny, bright colours always buck me up. Its interesting how fashion design can inspire strangers to start great conversations. Every time Ive worn my stripy, multicoloured Paul Smith leather gloves, complete strangers have stopped to admire them, leading to some funny chats.

Where do you buy your underwear?
At a brilliant online store called Amoena, which specialises in prostheses and beautiful lingerie for women who have had a mastectomy or lumpectomy. Their rep recently came all the way to local breast cancer support group, Breast Foot Forward, just to give free fittings and advice.

Do you judge people by their clothes?
Probably I do as its human nature, but I hope Id never treat someone less than well if they were dressed down.

Do you have a style role model?
Mary Queen of Shops Portas . I did some filming with her recently and she looked stylish without ever being over done. Eye catching colour and well cut clothes showed off her majestic height and great fashion confidence.

Who cuts your hair and how often?
Freelance hairdresser Donna Goutremot. I see her as often as she can squeeze me in. One hour with her and I always leave smiling.
