Three former England captains may be among the team that take to the field at Ipswich Cricket Club this summer.

A large crowd is expected to see the PCA England Masters XI play a Twenty20 match on Thursday, August 23 in aid of East Anglias Childrens Hospices against a team drawn mainly from Ipswich CC.

Mike Atherton, Mike Gatting and Michael Vaughan could be included in the side for the fund-raising fixture at the Clay Hall ground, off Old London Road, Copdock, just outside Ipswich.

It is hoped they may line-up alongside the likes of Dominic Cork, Neil Fairbrother, Phil DeFreitas, Darren Gough, Dean Headley, David Lloyd, Devon Malcolm, Paul Nixon and Gladstone Small.

As well as the England stars of yesteryear it is hoped to have some ex-Essex cricketers as well as show business celebrities in attendance.

The match will start at 3.30pm and is expected to conclude around 6.30pm to be followed from 7pm by evening entertainment including live band, disco, barbecue and hog roast. But a whole day of events has been scheduled, starting at 11am with a junior coaching session involving four of the England legends. This will be followed by a marquee luncheon with three of the ex-England players taking part in a Q&A session plus an auction of memorabilia and a raffle.

Gates open at 1pm, with organised events, including speed bowling challenge and bowling machine from 1.30pm.

Email enquiries can be made to England.legends@ipswichcricketclub or visit the clubs website page at

Tickets to the public will go on sale from July 1 and availability is limited.

Tables for the marquee lunch are available from Ambreen Fairburn on 07979 746503, and full details of the club and corporate packages available can be obtained from either Ambreen or Rick Jones on 07807 760479.
