A predictable choice among our selection perhaps but here is the view of a relative newcomer with a professional interest in the county.
Alex Paul, tourism manager for Choose Suffolk says that when he and his wife decided they didnt want to have just a weekend or holiday affair with Suffolk, but actually live here full time, they explored many places.
As it is when you see a house for the first time and just feel right about it, Lavenham did the same for us. Of course the natural beauty and charm of Lavenham is clear for all to see, but the village has strong and caring community core within it, he says.
I remember on my second visit, I spent some time at the primary school which offers such a warm, welcoming atmosphere which I know inspires my children. I wandered around Market Place.
After reading the menu at the Great House, exploring the Guildhall, popping into Sparlings bakery for a cream bun, then doing a bit of window shopping down the high street, a quick sausage roll from the butchers, a cup of tea at The Swan, I finished back outside The Angel with a pint watching the world go by in the Market Place. Already I was dreaming of being a local.
The dream is real now and I still have the same thoughts when I am sitting outside the Angel what a place to live a beautiful environment with a school and community that supports my family, neighbours who we want to share with and sense that although our family is not close, there is plenty of people in Lavenham who will be there for us.
I spend much of my time telling people what a great place Lavenham is to visit but I also know it is a great place to live.
