Sea Pictures Gallery, Clare, celebrates the start of spring with a wonderful exhibition of the work of embroiderer Michelle Holmes and painter Carol Saunderson. These two talented ladies shared a studio for 18 years before Carol moved back to Suffolk in December 2013. The exhibition opens on March 1 and runs until Thursday, April 17, 2014.

The award-winning work of embroiderer Michelle Holmes regularly tops the list of best selling artists at Sea Pictures Gallery. This exhibition will be the first time Michelle has displayed her five heritage quilts, side by side. The Lady Isabella Birds Travel Quilt was awarded a Judges Choice in the category of Art Quilts at the Festival of Quilts at the NEC.

In addition to her quilts and framed embroideries, Michelle is producing a special collection of her small pieces of machine embroidery in which her character Betty gets up to interesting things.

Michelle will be giving a demonstration of how she makes drawings with the sewing machine in the gallery, on Saturday, March 1, when we will also celebrate St David’s Day with homemade Welsh cakes and drinks.

Carol Saunderson’s paintings compliment the embroideries beautifully as they are jewelled landscapes of different degrees of abstraction.

She is also a brilliant portraitist and a great draughtswoman.

Carol will be demonstrating her art in the gallery during the exhibition. For more information visit the website www.seapicturesgallery.com or call 01787 279024. Children are always welcome.
