The Elveden Tear Jerker triathlon – named after the estate’s famous onion crop – has been announced for 2015

Entries are now open for the Tear Jerker Triathlon, taking place on Sunday May 24 on the Elveden Estate in Suffolk. Entries can be made online at www.thetearjerker.co.uk.

Organised by Chip Timing UK, in association with Elveden, the Tear Jerker has become an extremely popular event, with sports people of all levels looking to test their skills on the off-road terrain.

2015 marks the fifth annual Tear Jerker event.

Ian Welch, of ChipTiming UK, says: “The course involves a 750m swim in one of the estate’s reservoirs, a 25 km cycle ride across sandy farm and forest tracks and finishes with a 5km run through a rough course of forest and heathland.

“The location of Elveden in the heart of the Breckland region of Norfolk and Suffolk means the land is very sandy and very flat, making for an off-road challenge that it totally unique.”

Both team and individual entries are welcomed. Team entries comprise a relay-race, with three people per team, one taking on each element of the course.

The Tear Jerker name originates from the “tear-jerking” onion crop that Elveden is renowned for producing. Around 6% of the UK total is grown at Elveden.

Further information about the race can be found at www.thetearkerker.co.uk, where interested entrants are also able to sign up to the race.
