Anyone who’s known me since school days will tell you that I’ve always had an affinity with animals and enjoy their company.
Pets never let us down, always do their best to please us and, more often than not, make us laugh with their antics.
I’ve been running On the Scent Dog Training School in Suffolk since 2002. It began with me helping my friends and family with their own four-pawed companions and the training issues they were experiencing. But it was Guinness, our late German shorthaired pointer, who inspired me to start a dog training school and start running classes.
When we first started we had one class of eight puppies and eight adult dogs for the beginners’ agility. We now run classes daily, along with private lessons for owners with more challenging dogs, and home visits for those experiencing training issues in the home or who need pre-vaccination help with their puppies.
We are very humbled by our clients’ desire to travel to us from other counties and on one occasion, all the way from Germany, on their way to visit family.
Our training is fun and we pride ourselves on the fact that we teach life skills and cover everything from house training to gundog training, fun dog agility for dogs 12 months of age and older, and car travel training along with general dog obedience.
All our training is held outdoors in a dog’s natural environment as this is where owners are going to be walking their dogs with all the scents of the outside world. It is a relaxed and safe environment and a warm welcome awaits everyone.
Whether you are six years old or 106 years old, we are here to help you the best that we can. If a dog has behavioural issues that are more challenging than my capabilities, I refer them to one of three canine behaviourists in my area who work very closely with me and On the Scent.
I am currently a student with the Kennel Club Accreditation scheme, working towards accreditation and a Master Trainer with the Guild of Dog Trainers.
So I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with you in Suffolk Magazine.
