If you fancy getting out and about for your sustenance then you really are spoilt for choice in our region with its quality restaurants and pubs. What could be more comforting at this time of year than being welcomed into an establishment known for exceptional local fare, attentive staff and roaring log fires?
Well, quite simply nothing and thats why the award-winning Swan at Lavenham has rightfully won its place in the hearts of people around the country as well as in our corner of East Anglia.
Whether you choose their sumptuous Gallery Restaurant or their Brasserie, youll find food exceptional and hearty enough to enliven the drear weeks left in this uncommonly-cold winter.
Try The Swans breast of guinea fowl with bubble and squeak, spiced braised red cabbage, baby turnips and wild mushroom and Madeira ragout... follow that with their very own bread and butter pudding and youre in winter-food heaven!
Food and beverage manager John Morell recommends the gloriously-unctuous Stump Jump Sticky Chardonnay, perfect with its nose of marmalade, kumquat, peach and orange butter ripening on the palate to provide a hint of butterscotch and green apple.
Did I mention the log fires? Yes, perhaps I did, and what winter welcome would be complete without them?
The Swan certainly manages to combine both comfort and style in equal measure and situated in the heart of beautiful Lavenham, makes for the perfect venue, especially at this time of year.
