20 amazing spring and Easter days out in Suffolk

We’ve rounded up a list of some of the best Easter and spring events taking place in the county this year for you to enjoy

1) Delicious Easter Bread Workshop 2018 – March 24

The Food Hub at Kenton Hall are putting on a fantastic Easter workshop, led by Sue Hudson, which gives participants the opportunity of creating fragrant hot cross buns and other seasonal favourites from around the world.

Recipes include bagels, challah and snail rolls. The workshop runs from 10.30am – 3.30pm and includes a light lunch, refreshments and recipes for the day.

2) Eastertide at Kentwell Hall – March 30 – April 2

11am-5pm

Kentwell Hall, High Street, Long Melford, C010 9BA

Tudor Eastertide - 100 Tudors about the manor, under cover and in the grounds, celebrating Easter Tudor-style. The Impossible Easter Quiz to win a huge chocolate egg, house and gardens open, childrens’ Easter egg trail, family Fun trails and more.

3) Open Art Studio in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices - March 30 - April 2

11am-4pm

Vincents Studio & Gallery, Vincents Cottage, Clare Road, Hundon, CO10 8DH

Open art studio and garden, 20% of art sales to EACH, cottage garden and wildlife meadow, homemade cakes and teas. Free entry.

4) Easter at the Heritage Centre - March 30 - April 2

11am - 4pm daily

National Heritage Centre of Horseracing and Sporting Art, Palace House Newmarket, Palace House, Palace Street, Newmarket, Suffolk, CB8 8EP

Have-a-go grooming a pony, learn more about equine welfare and nutrition, Science Curator Briony in the pop-up discovery pod, colouring and crafts competition.

5) Maisebrooke Farm Easter Fair & Egg Hunt - March 31

10am - 4pm

Maisebrooke Farm, Shipmeadow, Beccles, NR34 8HJ

7) The Croft Campsite Children’s Festival - April 6-8

Music workshops, spoken word workshops, handicraft tent, wide games, a chance to do some cobbing, and performances.

8) The Framlingham Country Show - April 7 & 8

10am-5pm

Framlingham College, Framlingham, IP13 9EY

New and exciting attractions, including amazing horse and motorbike stunts, the wonderful world of birds demonstrations, dogs, food and drink markets, the classic British bake off and the fabulous celebrity chefs.

9) Snape Maltings Vintage and Makers Market - April 8

10am - 4pm

Deben Events @ Snape Maltings, Snape, IP17 1SP

Vintage traders, local makers and artisans with a wide range of furniture, fashion and homewares, handmade jewellery, art and fabrics. Free entry.

10) Go Ape this Easter!

Go Ape Forest Adventure at Thetford Forest is the perfect day out with a difference and a great way to spring into action after a winter indoors. You can try out the Tree Top Adventure and release your inner Tarzan - speed down zip wires, climb rope bridges, tackle swings and wobbly crossings, all suspended up to 120 feet above the forest floor.

Or for those that prefer keeping their feet on the ground, there’s the Forest Segway. Get off-road and explore the great outdoors in style.

11) Spring Break Hot Rod & Custom Car Show - April 7 & 8

Stonham Barns, Pettaugh Road, Stonham Aspal, IP14 6AT

£8 per day, £20 for weekend ticket, includes camping, all activity and entertainment

A weekend dedicated to all aspects of Vintage, Hot Rod and Kustom Kulture. Sunday focus is on `50s and later. Stalls and traders, auto jumblers, swapmeeters and vintage/record stalls for browsing and buying.

12) The Swashbuckling Pirate Adventure Show - March 31 – April 5

Stonham Barns, Pettaugh Road, Stonham Aspal, IP14 6AT

2pm each day (45 minute performance), £8 children, £6 adults

Fun family show featuring comedy, magic, circus skills and acrobatics all with a pirate theme. Drinks and ice cream available, refreshments in the bistro, popcorn, candy floss and children’s pirate themed toys.

13) Plant Sale - April 15

Redgrave & Lopham Fen National Nature Reserve, Low Common Road, South Lopham, IP22 2HX

10am - 3pm

Now in its 17th year, over 20 exhibitors, including award-winning and specialist nurseries, selling a wide variety of quality plants. Vintage and used gardening tools and equipment, bag a bargain at the trust’s donated plants stall. Reserve open, dogs are welcome on a lead.

14) Southwold Fine Art and Antiques Fair 2018 - March 30 - April 1

St Felix School, Southwold

Over 50 dealers in antique furniture, ceramics, clocks, jewellery, glass, silver, artworks and much more. A great day out at this much-loved seaside resort. Open 11am - 5pm each day. Admission £4, under 16s free. For more information please call 01379 586134.

15) Cretingham Beer and Cider Festival 2018 - April 27 & 28

Cretingham Golf and Country Lodges will be putting on a wonderful three-day event where beer enthusiasts can enjoy an excellent selection of ales, stouts, ciders, music, food and entertainment. Advanced tickets are only £5, for all ticket information visit the above link.

16) Jimmy’s Farm

Jimmy’s Farm, Pannington Hall Lane, IP9 2AR

Lots going on at the farm this Easter holidays for a great family day out. Meet Mr Bunny and his little furry friends in the Easter Grotto in the Roundhouse, see the Wildlife Park where you’ll find Keeper Talks, Close Encounters, Easter Egg Hunt, Woodand Walk, Den Building and the Butterfly House.

In the gardens there’s Easter Egg Painting (£2 per child) and Make a Bug Hotel from recycled materials to take home. (£4 per child) Also, head gardener Sarah shows you how to make your very own Easter Garden (£6 per child).

17) Easton Farm Park - Friday March 30 - Monday April 2

Easton, Woodbridge IP13 0EQ

Lots of activities included in the entry price of £9.25 per person (under-twos go free). Family (two adults and two children) Family Day Out ticket for £35. Half hourly activities, starting at 11am and finishing at 4.30pm.

Easter Egg Hunt, baby goats, lambs, baby guinea pigs and baby rabbits. Easter weekend schedule includes Hug a Bunny, Pony & Cart Rides, The Barrel Bug, meet the animals, Family Train Ride, Meet the Suffolk Punch, Pony Rides, Egg Collecting and Hold a chick, Tractor and Trailer Ride around the Green Trail, plus all the usual facilities including outdoor adventure area, indoor soft play area, air canon adventure in the Barmy Barn, mini farm trail, jumping air pillow, Victorian Dairy, Green Trail. The Barmy Barn serves delicious hot meals, snacks and drinks.

18) Medieval Life - March 30 - April 2

Journey back in time and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of medieval England. Displays and events throughout the day. English Heritage members free. Adult £9.50, child, 5-15 years £5.70, concession £8.60, family £24.70

19) Easter Egg Trail - April 2

11am-4pm

Ipswich Transport Museum

The Old Trolleybus Depot, Cobham Road, Ipswich IP3 9JD

An Easter themed day with eggs for youngsters and free rides on vehicles from the museum. (Supported by FirstBus Norfolk and Suffolk). While away some time exploring the fabulous collection of transport and engineering objects relating to Ipswich and the surrounding area, which give you a fascinating insight to local history.

20) Banham Zoo

Kenninghall Road, NR16 2HE

Open daily from 9:30am, with plenty of free parking right by the entrance.

Celebrating 50 years this year, Banham Zoo is an award winning family attraction and one of the most exciting wildlife attractions in the country, with over 2,000 animals from around the world and set in 50 acres of beautiful parkland and gardens.

There are lots of activities going on throughout the day with opportunities to meet keepers and get close to animals. You’ll want to keep going back!
