Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Charity Auction aims to raise £1million for cancer research and Suffolk hospitals

Have you got your bids in for Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Charity Auction?

There are just days to go until the auction closes on October 27 so if you want to support a great cause and be in with a chance of collecting a fabulous prize, now’s the time to get bidding.

Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough is raising crucial funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and cancer services at Ipswich and West Suffolk hospitals. Backed by headline supporter BT Sport, the auction has attracted an impressive array of lots from celebrities and local business people who are backing the effort to raise £1million.

Items include lunch with actor Bill Nighy; flights, accommodation and tickets to see the Real Madrid v Barcelona game in the Bernabeu Stadium as Kieron Dyer’s special guest; guests seats at the FIFA Ballon d’Or in Zurich on January 13, 2014; a Tottenham Hotspur experience including lunch with Andre Villas-Boas; a VIP trip to next year’s F1 in Monaco; a one-on-one personal bowling tuition with England cricketer Graeme Swann at Lords; Paul Gascoigne’s England match shirt from a pre-Italia ‘90 training game; and a week-long stay at The Brewers House in Southwold donated by Adnams.

Mark Robson, Sir Bobby’s son, said he was astounded by the quality of prizes that had been donated and urged people to help the auction reach its target. “The causes are fantastic,” he said. “The hospitals and Breakthrough are doing great work and this is a wonderful way to continue the work of raising money for cancer charities in my father’s name.”

Among the generous supporters of the auction is Suffolk businessman Ralph Auchinloss, who has donated three auction items – a week sailing for 10 people on the luxury catamaran Akasha in the Caribbean, sailing for six people on a yacht in Minorca and a stay at a luxury house for eight people in Minorca.

“This is a charity which we fully and strongly admire and want to support,” he said, “and after I met Gina – and was very impressed with the way she was approaching fund raising – I saw a way in which we could help.”

Ralph said his prime motivation for supporting the auction was the experience of his partner, Holly Cheese, who lost both her husband and her sister to cancer. “We’re aware of the dramatic effects that cancer can have for families – it comes from nowhere and suddenly hits you,” he said.

So, what are you waiting for? You and your friends could be cruising in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean aboard a luxury yacht with your own crew and chef.

You don’t need a lot of spare cash to take part in the auction – you can text-to-win and still pick up a top item.
