Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival at Snape Maltings – September 23 – 24

Since 2006 the festival has aimed to promote the county’s best producers and enhance the links between the food’s origin and the people who consume it. To continue working towards this mission, this year they will welcome Tim Anderson, Lope Ariyo, Dhruv Baker and many other producers from varying backgrounds.

The Tiptree and East of England Co-op stage will host talks and demonstrations while stalls and family activities will also be available for your perusal. Adult tickets are £8 a day or £14 for the weekend while under 15s are free.

Michaelmas Weekend at Kentwell Hall – September 23 – 24

This recreation of a Tudor harvest celebration will be brought to life by around 100 individuals each playing the part of everyday folk from the era while wearing distinctive period garb.

Around every corner of Kentwell’s red-brick mansion and splendid autumn garden will be a Tudor peasant, farmer or maid giving the Long Melford location an authentic atmosphere. Advance adult tickets cost £13, kids are £10.35 and there are discounts for family tickets.

Mushroom Foraging & Wild Food Cooking – September 24

Get back to your primitive instincts as local experts lead you into Suffolk woodland at Tiger Hill to learn how to identify edible fungi and collect them appropriately for later consumption.

After the morning’s forage, a local chef will cook the delights you have picked at a nearby pub. Your £75 ticket covers a full day’s activity, several food tastings and a goodie bag rammed full of wild, tasty treats.

Suffolk Supper Barge Cruise – September 22

Departing from the Old Custom House at Ipswich Dock, Barge Victor will take you out through the marina gates and onto the River Orwell as the sun sets on the surrounding Suffolk countryside.

Your £38.50 ticket (children cost £28.50) gets you a freshly cooked hot supper, side salad and bread roll while the crew will always be on hand to tell you about the areas maritime history. There is also a licensed bar on board serving a range of Adnams beers, ciders and soft drinks.

A Feast For The Eyes – September 22 – 28

A fringe event attached to the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival, Shelley Nott shows off her collection of photographs of food from unusual angles and bizarre perspectives.

To further support the mission of the festival, Nott’s work allows you to see produce like never before and appreciate it in ways you may not have thought were possible. Entry is free, so come along and get your mouth watering.
