The Big Onion Food and Music Festival at Elveden Estate near Thetford is back with a whole range of activities for all the family on the weekend of September 6 and 7.

The festival takes place in Elveden’s Walled Garden from 10am-5pm, adjacent to the Elveden Shopping Courtyard IP24 3TP. Tickets – £5 for adults, £3 for children and £10 for a family of four – can be purchased from www.bigonionfestival.com.

There will be cookery demonstrations from top local chefs, farm tours guided by Elveden’s senior farm manager Andrew Francis, “grow your own” advice from Riverbank Nursery, cheese and wine tasting with wine expert Chris Batten of Peatlings of Bury St Edmunds, plus a farmers’ market of more than 50 local food and drink producers, offering a chance to meet the people behind the products and taste their delicious goods.

For children there are fun and games from The Children’s Centre in Mildenhall, mini tractors and cookery sessions with Cookery for Kids, pocket money games, a bouncy castle and bungee trampolines.

A programme of live music will fill the day with everything from acoustic singer songwriters to popular local covers band Madison.

Also new for 2014 is Big Onion trade day on Friday, September 5 – a chance for local restaurants, farm shops, delis and other food businesses to network and find out more about local producers.

Admission is free but strictly by application at www.bigonionfestival.com.
