Robert Mace has joined The Westleton Crown as head chef.

Robert, who previously worked at various properties along the Suffolk coast, moved to the Crown in August 2013 and now replaces Richard Bargewell, who was head chef for more than nine years and helped build the Crown’s excellent reputation.

Robert’s food can be described as rustic modern British. Born in Norfolk, he moved to Suffolk to develop his career with food. His knowledge and love of the area and its local produce are reflected in his menus that change with the seasons.

Current starters include steamed Simper’s Deben mussels with leeks, Aspall cyder and parsley. Main courses include roast Bunwell Wood partridge, root vegetable gratin, braised red cabbage, quince, game gravy.

The Crown’s a la carte menu is available throughout the week, but there’s also a special Winter Warming Wednesdays set menu at lunch or dinner available until the end of March 2014 – £14.95 for two courses and £18.95 for three courses (excluding Christmas and New Year periods).
