Café 1885, Snape Maltings

In addition to a concert hall, galleries and shops, the pretty arts complex on the River Alde is also home to Café 1885 that is tucked away on a mezzanine floor. Recognised by the Suffolk Food and Drinks Awards for its use of local produce, the café offers a tempting range of brunch options and is recommended by reviewers on Tripadvisor as the place to go if you like your coffee strong.

Applaud Coffee (formerly Baker and Barista), Ipswich

Decked out with reclaimed vintage furniture, Applaud Coffee serves locally roasted coffee in a creative environment. Run by sister team, Hannah and Beth, the shop serves a variety of homemade cakes, brunch and boasts a lunch menu which changes seasonally. They hold regular classes for everything from Lino printing to paper cutting workshops, so you can get crafty as you sip your coffee.

Aldeburgh Market, Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh Market is a local foodie destination, recommended by the Michelin Guide, with a deli, greengrocer and fishmonger in addition to its café. If you stop by for a highly-recommended coffee here, make sure you have time to try out the delicious looking home-baked cakes too.

Arlingtons, Ipswich

Head to the Grade II listed, former Ipswich Museum, for coffee, pastries and a flick through the daily papers. Taking inspiration from both French and British cuisine, the relaxed brasserrie serves food throughout the day – including the quintessentially English afternoon tea.

Wild Strawberry Cafe, Woodbridge

The bustling town of Woodbridge is home to the Wild Strawberry Café that overlooks the Market Hill. Cakes, cookies and tray bakes are freshly baked each day – plus they cater for gluten-free diets. Eat al fresco in the summer months in Woodbridge’s pretty market square.

Pump Street Bakery, Orford

Pump Street Bakery believe that community is central to their bakery,, which is why you’ll sit round a communal to enjoy your coffee. Their coffee is roasted by hipster fave, Monmouth, in London and the bread and pastries are lovingly baked in-house each day – you can even attend a class to hone your sourdough baking skills.

Hall Farm Café, Stratford St Mary

If you like to admire a good view as you sip your coffee, then the Dedham Vale vista from the courtyard seating at Hall Farm could be for you. The café was formerly an old cattle byre, but these days it is a relaxed spot for a morning coffee or a yummy afternoon cream tea.

Depden are known for great homemade cakes, including gluten-free options. Plus, if you’re conscious of keeping food miles down, the meat and produce sold in the adjoining farm shop is all home-grown or sourced locally – you can even visit some of the animals on the farm.

A chilled out café bar where you can soak up the sea air, even in winter, on the heated patio overlooking the sea. Check out the ‘sweet things’ section of their menu for something yummy to accompany your freshly-brewed coffee – don’t miss the banana and hazelnut parfait with chocolate sauce.
